Most don’t survive their third year, but the 5th Annual Queens World Film Festival is about to begin its six-day run on March 17, and it keeps growing and growing. A total of 116 flicks — of all imaginable lengths, themes, and languages — will screen at various venues in Astoria, Jackson Heights, the Kaufman Arts District, and Long Island City this year. But beforehand the organizers are going to hold a special night to introduce some of the filmmakers, festival directors, and special guests as well as show 10 trailers of selected movies. In anticipation of the upcoming Queens World Film Festival, a new LIC hostel, Local NY, will host a trailer party this Saturday, starting at 7 pm. Great atmosphere, gracious hosts, exciting trailers, and networking opportunities. Here is a list of the featured trailers: Wild Woman; Unafraid, Voices from the Crime Victims Treatment Center; Clean Break; Diwali Dream Garage; Millie and the Lords; Paradise Found, Paradise Lo$t; The Lives of Hamilton Fish; Short Steps; Juice It; and 4am Gas Station Muzak.

Bonus details: A.R. Rahman in World Premiere, Museum of the Moving Image, 36-01 35th Avenue, Kaufman Arts District, February 25th, 7 pm. This Indian musician and composer wrote the Academy Award-, Golden Globe-, and Grammy-winning score for the feature film Slumdog Millionaire. On this night, he will appear in person for the world premiere of Jai Ho, a new documentary about his career, which features spectacular concert footage.
