It’s the most diverse county in the world and the best tourism destination in the United States, so it’s no surprise that Queens is overflowing with wonderful Valentine’s Day activities and bargains. In fact, local chances for romance and fun related to this international holiday are so numerous that they run for more than two weeks and include everything from live music to a “love run,” hotel getaways, and even a blood drive for the do-gooders. Activities are listed in chronological order:
  • Kid’s Valentines Day Workshop, Bayside, February 7th, noon.
  • Pre-Valentine’s Day Special, St. Michael’s Cemetery, February 7th, 2 pm. This recital features two upcoming talented artists: Olga Turkina on violin and Philipp Petkov on piano.
  • Passion & Piano-Jazzo Brunch, Bayside, February 8th, noon. A jazz trio and lunch in a true castle.
  • For the Love of Queens 5K, Corona, February 14th, 9 am. Couples and cupids join this race, which will start under the boardwalk from the 7 train at the Mets-Willets Point station. Proceeds will go to LIC nonprofit Urban Upbound.
  • 50 Shades of Z Hotel, Long Island City, February 14th-28th. Package with a box of trinkets, including edible underwear, handcuffs, tickle feather, and blindfolds; Book of erotic games; Chocolate strawberries and champagne; Guest room overlooking the Manhattan skyline; and Breakfast in bed.
  • Storybook Discovery: Spread the Love, Flushing, February 14th, 11 am. This monthly reading activity focuses on Valentine’s Day tales. Participants can make valentines to take home.
  • Hands on History: Be My Valentine, King Manor, February 14th, noon. Decorate a picture frame and create 19th century-inspired valentines.
  • Author in Focus: Kerri Ann Gill, Jamaica, February 14th, 7 pm. A special dinner theater with Romantic Comedy Tenant Romance.
  • Tango 5 Senses, Sunnyside, February 14th, 8 pm. Professional Tango performance followed by a wine social with the dancers.
  • LaGuardia Plaza Hotel, East Elmhurst, February 14th. Chilled champagne with red velvet cake pops, chocolates, rose petals, and surprise amenities in the room.
  • Swim-Cation, Corona, February 15th-21st. The Holiday Inn LaGuardia’s special package includes parking, a swim class, and an overnight double-bedded room.
  • The Lure of Love, Flushing, February 15th, 2 pm. Pianist Janet Restino presents a program of music and poetry for love, about love, and for lovers of love.
  • Valentine’s Party, Douglaston, February 15th, 1:30 pm. The Alley Pond Environmental Center hosts children animals, animal party games, crafts, and a nature hike.
  • Valentine’s Day Blood Drive, Douglaston, February 16th, 2 pm. Alley Pond hosts a blood drive in loving memory of Eric Zirkel, a recently deceased member of the center’s family.
  • Crystal Winter Valentine Concert, Corona, February 22nd, 1 pm. Quintet of the Americas presents a concert with a Valentine theme, waltzes and, tangos.
