They’re tough. They’re talented. And they’re from the ’hood. In The Queens Bees, three local high school girls become overnight sensations as a singing group in the 1960s. However, after they hit stardom, they encounter a new set of issues, partly because they discover that they all want very different things in life.

Because this musical is set during height of the doo-wop era, the score includes such golden oldies as “Twist and Shout” and “Leader of the Pack.” The Queens Bees will make its world premier on May 8 at Queens Theatre, where it will run through May 17.

Details: The Queens Bees, Queens Theatre, 14 United Nations Avenue South, Flushing Meadows Corona Park, May 8 through May 17, performances are Fridays at 8 pm, Saturdays at 2 pm and 8 pm, Sundays at 3 pm, and an additional matinee on Friday, May 15, at 2 pm, $25-$42.
