On Monday, we posted about the Historic Jackson Heights Weekend, which features two days of walking tours around the neighborhood. This was accurate as far as it goes, but it deserves an amplification, as there are guided treks all around the borough this weekend.

On Saturday, official Queens historian Jack Eichenbaum gives his signature expedition, The World of the 7 Train. It’s actually a series of six walks along with subway rides. He discusses the history and impact of the 7 line, while stopping in Long Island City, Sunnyside, Woodside, Jackson Heights, Corona, and Flushing, where the event ends with lunch, probably at a Chinese restaurant.

On Sunday, The Brooklyn Queens Experience leads a three-hour, small-group excursion through Long Island City. Participants meet local artists, makers, and entrepreneurs, while also grabbing some light bites and checking out a microbrewery. The grand finale is at the Z Hotel’s rooftop lounge, where views of Midtown Manhattan and the East River will be enhanced by prosecco (see below photo).

Also on Sunday, Kevin Walsh, a local historian and editor of the Forgotten NY blog (as well as a contributor to Brownstoner Queens), takes a crew through Woodhaven. He hits Neir’s Tavern, which is the longest continuously operating eatery in the United States, and explores the remnants of old enamelware factories, hidden cemeteries, and carousels, while also marveling at some of the area’s architecture.
