Jamaica Estates draws international buyers, plus two Tudors currently for sale
This past weekend, the Wall Street Journal reported that Jamaica Estates, the tree-laden neighborhood in east-central Queens, is seeing rising prices and an influx of foreign buyers. If you are interested in the history of the neighborhood, there’s a book about it, but you can also start with the Jamaica Estates Association website, which explains that over 500 acres of densely wooded land was bought by New York’s Lieutenant Governor in 1904 for residential building — and some stunners were in fact built.

More recently, said the WSJ, the neighborhood has seen “new arrivals hailing from South Asia as well as a significant number of Bukharian Jews, who are drawn to the religious infrastructure in the neighborhood—including synagogues, kosher restaurants and shops.”
This house, with 3 beds and 4 baths and built in 1940 is currently listed at $725,000. (GMAP)
And this one, a 6 bed, 7 bath, 5 fireplace 9,000 square footer built in 1928 is listed at $5,200,000. (GMAP)
