The Dutch Kills area just north of the Queensboro Bridge is teeming with hotels, the result of a building boom initially fueled by the possibility of the 2012 Summer Olympics coming to town. Hotels.com lists 16 hotels in Long Island City as a whole, and there are nine by our count between 21st Street and Northern Boulevard just north of the bridge. A recent article in the Journal Inquirer recounts the experiences of a Connecticut-based couple that comes to the city frequently to visit their grown children. Priced out of Manhattan hotels they began sampling the many offerings around Queens Plaza, including the Verve at 40-03 29th Street (where the author paid $143 a night), the Nesva at 39-12 29th Street ($159 a night), the Holiday Inn at 39-05 29th Street ($126) and the Ravel at 8-08 Queens Plaza South. We’ve got photos of all these hotels as well as some others like the Four Points Sheraton at 27-05 39th Avenue and the Fairfield Inn at 29-27 40th Road below. Other hotels near Queens Plaza include the Country Inn & Suites at 40-34 Crescent Street (the cheapest at $108), the Vetiver at 29-11 39th Avenue and the Quality In at 30-03 40th Avenue.
