This spring Long Island City based Forum for Urban Design is sponsoring a series of weekly workshops about the future of New York City. They are addressing some big topics and you are invited to participate by making a 5-minute pitch on a topic of your choice. They’ll be publishing the most compelling ideas this summer.
We welcome all your ideas, from napkin sketches to concrete schemes. We only ask that your proposals be bold (new ideas only please), brief (no longer than five minutes), and illustrated (with at least one diagram or sketch). This summer, we’ll publish the most compelling ideas to provoke our city’s next leaders to act.
One of our favorite web analytics sites is Quantcast. Its free and you can check out many of your favorite web sites, including QueensNYC, to see how many people visit a site — and also what the site’s overall demographics looks like. You can also see these numbers in comparison to the Internet’s average.
QNYC’s readers are evenly split by gender.. and this is consistent with internet average..
It’s always fun to hear what people are reading these days. So what have you read lately? Are you a book fiend? Devoted to magazines (newsy and trashy alike)? Or maybe you’re fully online and you primarily read content on the web? Let us know – leave us a comment here or via twitter at @queensnycity!
So, we’ve asked about Mexican food and Thai food, and now we’re moving on to Chinese food, which of course is a big deal in Queens, especially Flushing. There are a lot of places to choose from. Where do you like to eat Chinese food? Any region is welcome. And do you prefer Chinese street food, fancy sit down, or hole in the wall? Or are you more of a Golden or New World Mall kind of person? We’d love to know – leave us a comment here or via twitter at @queensnycity!
Over the weekend we were perusing old NY World’s Fair photos and we got to wondering… would you like to see another World’s Fair in NYC? And if so, where? Flushing Meadows Park again? Somewhere else? It’s a fun thing to think about. The next one will be Expo 2015 in Milan, Italy. Let us know your thoughts on this in the comments or via twitter at @queensnycity!
As we head closer to spring, we start to think about vacations. Sure it’s warming up a little, but someplace warm sounds good right about now. So, where do you like to go on vacation? Where is your favorite vacation spot? Let us know in the comments or via twitter at @queensnycity!
Well, today is the day – Pi Day. It’s March 14, therefore 3/14 (pi is, of course, 3.14 etc). Are you celebrating Pi Day today? And are you celebrating with pie? Let us know if you like to geek out on the day (and what kind of pie you’ll be eating, if any) – leave a comment here or via twitter at @queensnycity!

Another great element besides the food and service at an establishment, is the music. Sometimes the music playing in the background can really elevate an experience (or cause it to come tumbling down if the music is bad). So where do you like to go where they have great music? And do you prefer it live or recorded? Leave us a comment here or via twitter at @queensnycity.
