On Wednesday night we attended the 10th anniversary of the Renaissance, an event hall on 21st Street near 27th Road in Astoria (GMAP). We enjoyed great drinks, food, and even sweet treats from borough favorites Cannelle and Astor Bake Shop. In 2009, Renaissance did their first major renovation – they updated the interior, installed a new dance floor, and upgraded the sound system and lighting equipment. By Winter 2013 they plan to complete their second renovation with an expansion of the current space.

Renaissance specializes in weddings and other important events, but started out there as a steakhouse. However, people kept renting out the space for special events like birthdays and other parties – having the time of their lives – and after a while the Renaissance owners and management realized that hosting bigger events was their calling.

They recently purchased the site of the now-closed 28th Avenue Post office (which is right next door) and will be expanding into that space (construction is already underway). This will help increase the dining room to accommodate up to 350 guests, so they can work with even larger parties. The kitchen and bridal suite will also be enlarged, and new restrooms will be added. They will also be adding a 1,500 square foot roof deck that will have 360 degree views of NYC skyline and more. This renovation will add an additional 5,000 square feet to the Renaissance.

Happy 10th anniversary, Renaissance!
