Architizer, the web’s largest platform for architecture, announces the official opening of the 4th Annual Architizer A+ Awards. The ceremony honors the best architecture, spaces, and products across the globe.

The A+Awards are the largest and most visible architecture awards program, the only red carpet event to honor the year’s best architecture. Architizer’s mission is to “break architecture out of its echo chamber” and bring the buildings that are shaping our world to the forefront of the conversation, the same way music, film, and pop culture are celebrated today.

In collaboration with its partners The Wall Street Journal, WSJ. Magazine, Dwell, the Webby Awards, Phaidon, and Cool Hunting, the A+Awards reaches an audience of more than 300 million via media outlets across the globe. Unlike other awards programs that honor just one firm, the A+ Awards give exposure to hundreds of finalists, and more than 200 winners. And the entry deadline has been extended to January 29.

A+Awards fans and supporters have included Martha Stewart, Thom Browne, and Amanda Burden. Top-tier firms such as Bjarke Ingels Group, SOM, Steven Holl Architects, and Zaha Hadid Architects have all been winners and finalists.

Last year’s competition saw entries from firms and brands across 100 countries. The judging process included evaluation by an esteemed panel of jurors, including luminaries from the world of architecture, design, media, art, technology, and fashion such as Pritzker Architecture Prize winner Rafael Moneo; Jeanne Gang of Studio Gang Architects; Guy Raz, host of TED Radio Hour; and Ian Schrager of the Ian Schrager Company.

The 2015-2016 competition will include many returning jurors from previous years, and the addition of Marion Weiss of Weiss/Manfredi; Mohsen Mostafavi, Dean of the Graduate School of Design at Harvard University; and Susan Sellers, Head of Design at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

For 2016, the awards categories have been expanded to include unbuilt designs that promote new and innovative concepts within the profession. Also included are the new Details categories, which honor inventive and creative features and material applications within buildings, with categories that feature architecture and façade, stairs, glass, and textiles.

In 2016 Architizer will again compile a full-color, hardcover volume of winners and other select works with returning partner Phaidon, the leading art and architecture publishing house. The catalog is a comprehensive listing of the best in show.

Winners, jurors, and VIPs will all gather at a red carpet gala in New York City, which will span from Tuesday, May 3 to Tuesday, May 17. In 2015, the gala and after-party were attended by 400 top architects and designers, including Juergen Mayer (J. Mayer H.), Craig Dykers (Snøhetta), Bernard Tschumi (Bernard Tschumi Architects) and Jeanne Gang (Studio Gang Architects), as well as notables such as Yves Behar (fuseproject), Laura Anzani (Poliform USA), and Karen Wong (New Museum).

The 2016 gala will again bring together some of the industry’s most respected participants.

“The A+ gala is more than just a party. It represents a moment for us to stand up and champion our art, recognizing the transformational role that architecture can play in our lives,” says Architizer CEO Marc Kushner. “This year we take a step back and expand the frame, creating an even wider set of categories and include not just the buildings and structures that impact our world, but also the products and materials that allow them to speak.”

After jury and public voting take place, winners will be announced in April and recognized at the A+ Awards Gala in New York City in May.
