RESOBOX (GMAP) is a Japanese art gallery and cultural center located one block from the Queensboro Plaza station. Run by Fumio Tashiro and Takashi Ikezawa, the space – which takes its name from the words “resonate” and “box” – showcases Japanese-inspired art, hosts classes, and serves beverages and desserts in its cafe.
COFFEED, the new café that’s outfitted in recycled materials and minimalist design, selling sustainable and local products, and promoting urban agriculture, looks a little out of place on the strip of Northern Boulevard that’s home to car dealerships, auto body shops, self-storage facilities, superstores, and parking lots. But there’s a new sort of vibe growing at the building at 37-18 Northern Boulevard (GMAP), which is also home to rooftop farm Brooklyn Grange, the New York office of the Jim Henson Company, and tech startups such as internet TV company Aereo. While at the Community Board 1 meeting last night, we got wind of a new spot opening up on Ditmars Blvd in Astoria, called The Thirsty Koala. Their name showed up on the list of September Liquor License Applications available to all at the CB meeting. Turns out it’s going to be a place that serves Australian-inspired food. (more…)
