City Councilman Peter Vallone from Astoria called for establishing emergency lanes on Queens Boulevard over the weekend, after ambulance corps throughout Queens reported trouble getting through the packed thoroughfare during emergencies.

Queens Boulevard – which already has the unfortunate nickname “the Boulevard of Death” – can slow down traffic and emergency services alike. Vallone hopes that emergency lanes would let motorists know which lanes to exit when hearing ambulance sirens.
