Big news around Queens Plaza: the iconic Long Island City Clocktower has sold. Word comes from the present tenant Center for the Holographic Arts, who will vacate the building on April 13th. Here’s a snippet from the center’s announcement:

It saddens us to inform you that the Center for the Holographic Arts will be leaving the Clock Tower of LIC on April 13th. This gorgeous 1926 art deco bank building, which was the tallest building in Queens for over sixty years, has been sold. We’ve been overjoyed to call this space our home for the past nine months.

Center for the Holographic Arts moved into the clock tower last September, using the historic bank lobby and vault space to display different types of holographic artwork. Before that, the clock tower sat empty for decades. So the big question remains, what’s to become of the clock tower? The buyer is unknown and the sale has not yet hit public records.
