A new craft beer bar and restaurant called the Ugly Duckling is moving into 166 Smith Street, the former site of an MTA-owned building that amNewYork voted one of the “fugliest” buildings in the city. Owner Joan Lombardo says she’ll have 30 craft beers on tap and serve light fare, including pub standards like burgers, sandwiches and salads, as well as vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options. She plans to open in late November, joining the Lululemon store on the ground floor. If you’ve forgotten about the “distinctive” ironwork the yoga store has attached to the corner of the building, check out the photo after the jump.

The MTA sold the concrete bunker for $3,500,000 to a developer in 2011, who converted the apartments into rental units. The one- to three-bedroom apartments came on the market in July and rent for $4,750 to $7,995 per month. GMAP
