Dutch Colonial Brooklyn

Some are nostalgic for New York in the 1970s and others the ’80s, but how about the mid-1600s?

The Brooklyn Historical Society is holding a workshop on how to teach daily life in Brooklyn’s Dutch Colonial Era. Back before Breuckelen got its OO’s, the borough was a far different place.

The workshop will look into key aspects of Dutch colonial life, including slavery and agriculture, as well as family, work, gender and race.

Led by archaeologist Dr. Alyssa Loorya and educators from the Wyckoff House, the workshop will focus on giving teachers helpful ideas for how to convey lessons on the time in their own classrooms.

The $35 tickets include admission, breakfast and lunch. Tickets can be purchased online.
