A tipster told us that an espresso bar is coming into the storefront at 324 7th Avenue, next to the Smiling Pizza Storefront. They say it will be an “Italian crepe and espresso bar” with the classic Italian marble bar for stand-up espresso, which will be of the Illy variety. Dunno when they’ll be open, but right now they even have Italian newspaper up on the windows!

  1. I heart Almondine, but go to Colson because a)they bake stuff on premises and it smells amazing, and 2)just to support them.

Hopefully, this place will offer something different than French/Belgian pastry (which it certainly sounds like).

And it’s far enough from Cafe 🙁 to not eat into its business. And it’s on the New Yorkiest block in Brooklyn! (http://newyork.timeout.com/articles/tour-new-york/73119/best-block-park-slope-brooklyn)

  2. espresso is always a good thing! and to get some good stuff you have to go south of 9th to cafe grumpy.

hopefully they can get the concept of the espresso bar thing down, somehow it never feels like italy (maybe with the exception of cafe colombe in tribeca)

  3. I can totally get behind this. When I was traveling in Italy I loved the espresso bars. Even when we were going through the mountains we could stop at a gas station and people were standing up at the bar having their espressos and talking nonsense. Perfect for my walk to the subway in the morning.
