We’ve never claimed to be anything but newcomers, but, man, does reading an article like drive home that feeling! It doesn’t get anymore old school Brooklyn than this. The Long Island Restaurant and Montero’s, two establishments largely preserved in their original mid-century states, form the battle lines for a family feud going back almost as long to a grocery store on State Street put out of business by the BQE. We’re surprised Scorcese hasn’t bought the rights.

  1. I’m going take sides here. Back when I was a younger drinking man I used to frequent the Montero and was always welcomed by Joe + Pilar with loving arms. The one time I went to the Long Island Restaurant for a drink I was served with suspicion and reluctance by Emma. When I got up from my stool and went to the rear of the room in search of the bathroom Emma came flying out from behind the bar, waving her arms at me and screaming “What are you doing back here?” I told her her what I was doing so she jabbed her finger in the right direction. When I came she suggested that I leave the bar completely. So I did and have never gone back.

She was a total bitch and Pilar has always been cool. It’s no mystery to me who the guilty party in this feud is.
