forest-hills-greenmarket-extension

It’s official: the Forest Hills Greenmarket will continue in the neighborhood year-round. This Sunday, Edge of the City spotted a sign at the greenmarket announcing the extension. Originally, the market was slated to shut down for the season on December 29th, but residents started a petition to keep it running. The market will continue to run Sundays from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm.

  1. This makes no sense-where will the fruits and vegetables be coming from? Surely not locally grown in winter, right? So from where? If from the same places as supermarkets get them from, then why bother paying such high prices?

    • From the many of the same vendors that sold there in the warmer months, I imagine. Farmers can grow many vegetables in greenhouses year round, and many vegetables, particularly hardy root and cruciferous vegetables, actually do well in the cold and can store for months without spoiling.
