Starting next Wednesday, the massive Brooklyn Bridge rehab project will involve “abrasive blasting of existing lead-based paint” at the Brooklyn anchorage of the bridge, according to an email from CB2. Sounds a little scary, but the DOT says the work is conforming to federal and state regulations: “All painting work is being conducted in accordance to the US Environmental Protection Act and NYS Department of Environmental Conservation requirements. Dust collection, vacuum and recycling units are being employed to minimize environmental air quality risks, and there is continuous air monitoring during operations.”
