Carroll Gardens Patch reported on the impending closure of Columbia Street’s Main Street Ephemera last month, and now the shop is in the process of liquidating. According to the business’s website, “There are no regular hours, open by appointment or on sale days.” (The next one is tomorrow.) The store, which mostly focused on paper collectibles like posters, opened in 1997, according to its website.

  1. He’s always done street fairs and flea markets and will continue to. Seems to make more sense since that part of Columbia does not get many browsers who might stumble upon this store. Some people in the nabe check in regularly but it does make more sense to bring the goods to the people. (He says he will also sell online.)

  2. Too bad. I happened to drive by the store a few weeks ago and was actually surprised to see it was still there. I was in there once, bought a few old comic books. Fun to look around. It didn’t seem like it was going to be around that long by the stock (or lack thereof) evident in the store at the time. That kind of business doesn’t do well as a stand-alone, it needs similar stores around to draw the kind of people that buy this kind of material. Atlantic Ave used to be the antique district. With the news that the Horseman is selling their building, it seems like this too is coming to an end.

  3. I picked up an old movie poster there last week. (originally 40, got it for 25) Prices are a bit much but there’s some good trinkets, plenty of posters, and whatnots to be had there. The owner said he’d be around till March or so.

The giant poster of the original SHAFT was so tempting. Ah well.
