Michelin Brooklyn Star The Finch

“The stars continue to shine bright in Brooklyn,” the new 2016 Michelin Guide announces, referring to the 12 Brooklyn restaurants that received stars in this year’s edition.

The majority of star-worthy Brooklyn eateries are located Downtown and in Williamsburg, with a smattering in Clinton Hill, Bushwick, and one in Red Hook.

Two new Brooklyn restaurants were awarded single stars in this year’s guide. Those winners are Williamsburg’s “vegetable-forward” Semilla and Clinton Hill’s The Finch, which serves what Michelin considers to be sophisticated American cuisine.

This is not Semilla’s first pass with fame, as the New York Times gave the pricey eatery a two-star review earlier this year.

The Finch has a dual owner and chef in Gabe McMackin, who has decades of New England cooking experience as well as software development in his resume. It’s located in a freshly renovated 120-year-old brownstone.

The other starred Brooklyn restaurants are Chef’s Table, Blanca, Delaware and Hudson, La Vara, Luksus at Torst, Meadowsweet, Peter Luger, Pok Pok NY, River Cafe, and Take Root.

While Michelin is a time-proven guide to good eats, its understanding of Brooklyn neighborhoods is, um, shakier than an overzealous real estate agent’s. Pok Pok NY’s 117 Columbia Street location is in both Sunset Park and Brighton Beach, according to the guide. Similarly, The Finch is located at the heart of Clinton Hill on 212 Greene Avenue, but Michelin would have you believe it’s in both Fort Greene and Bushwick.
