Late last week we noticed a couple of new murals going up in Downtown Brooklyn, one of Duffield Street and one on Lawrence Street. Turns out it part of a joint effort between the MetroTech BID and the Brooklyn Arts Council to prettify the streetscape in front of stalled development projects. The Brooklyn Paper, which notes that there’s a third mural on Bridge Street, ID’s the artists as the sister team of Laura and Jenn Manzella.

  1. i like murals. and arkady is right, they are great for kids. and a great way for a kid to put stuff in their portfolio if they should choose to go to art school or apply for one of the better art focused public art high schools. sometimes they can look bizarre tho, but most of them better than what was there

  2. I noticed these too, i like them a lot!

On another probably unrelated note the Downtown Brooklyn Partnership if having a meeting on Tilary street at The Loading Dock. Tonight I think at like 6:30. It will probably be a regurgitation of the stuff on their website but as a resident of the area I’ll be there listening none the less.

  3. Many years ago, when rampant graffitti had just started, my mother wrote to the City suggesting that school art classes be assigned to hoardings in their neighborhoods to produce that kind of art. She got a response saying she must be crazy & in need of therapy. Wish she were still alive… (Not just for that reason.)
