We’ve been watching the recent construction on a former produce market (which sat for at least a year after it closed) on 23rd Avenue in Astoria – it’s going to be a bagel shop called New York City Bagel Coffee House. No website or social media presence could be found for this establishment. Now, some may argue that the last thing we need is another bagel shop, but we are happy to give any place a reasonable shot. And Astorians seem to love a place that serves great coffee (we hope this is one of those places).

Outside the building – which sports beautiful exposed brick on one side – someone involved with the planning of the place (the owners, maybe) posted several pictures of what the inside is expected to look like. And it looks pretty nice. Here are the photos (click to enlarge):

There’s some interesting lighting going on, what looks like potentially reused wood, front windows that open up. The bagel shop will be on a bustling area of 23rd Avenue, just a block or two from the Ditmars N/Q stop.

We look forward to watching the construction progress and will fill you in on more details as we get them. We really hope the coffee is great, too.
