An open call has been announced for submissions to the 2013 Queens World Film Festival. You can submit your film here.

The mission of the Queens World Film Festival (QWFF) is to screen “challenging films from around the world and around the corner.” Categories for submission are Animation (under 25 minutes), Documentary, Narrative (shorts, and features over 50 minutes; longer animated and LBGT films can be entered in this category, too), and LGBT (any form or genre, under 25 minutes).

In 2012, 203 films were submitted, and out of those, 120 were screened. Furthermore, 45 films were world premieres, and 28 films were from Queens. 2011 was the Festival’s first year in operation.

A little bit about the festival:

The Queens World Film Festival provides a forum for innovative and challenging independent films. Turning three in 2013, QWFF promotes engagement in the arts through an annual festival, industry panels, special screening events, and popular youth-oriented educational initiatives. Year round screenings provide ongoing opportunities for QWFF filmmakers, past and present

Additionally, there will be an event tonight at the Z Hotel. Three of the 2012 Festival award winning films will be screened on the Z’s rooftop – Queen by Adam Rose; Andrew: Story of a Closet Monster by Elliot Lobell; and Easy Street by Russell Greene. Cocktails will be from 7:30-8:30 and screenings will run for an hour starting at 8:30pm.
