The Queens Museum of Art has recently issued and open call for their Queens International 2013, an annual exhibition (since 2001), “a biennial of artists living and/or working in Queens which brings together the vibrant borough though contemporary cultural production in all media.” The submission deadline is May 12, 2013; the exhibition runs October 2013 – February/March 2014.

More info:

Be part of our expanding vision and celebrate the Queens Museum’s grand reopening with a facility that doubles our original size in October 2013. In the spirit of expansiveness, for the first time, we invite, not just visual artists, but all creative folks in Queens to submit for the 6th edition of Queens International. Artists, visionaries, literati, impresarios, makers of all trades!

Submit your materials and/or propose a new work, project, or innovative programming idea (educational, public events, performance-based, on- and off-site), catalogue design, exhibition design, and beyond. The selected works may be realized with modest financial assistance by the museum or presented in a proposal format in the exhibition.

They plan to host a couple of open houses (March 17th & April 7th, 2-3pm) and a proposal slam (Sunday, May 19th – time to be announced). At the open house you can sign up for hard hat tours of the new galleries (since the museum is expanding). There will be a Q&A with the curatorial staff. At the proposal slam, which also serves as a pressure-free, open forum for networking among Queens artists, you’ll be treated to “a rapid-fire 3-5 minute public presentation” for each artist’s proposal.

You can submit your proposal here.
