55-middagh-original-060210.jpgThe Landmarks Preservation Commission recently received an application to modify the exterior of 55 Middagh Street in Brooklyn Heights; as the rendering at top shows, the application is to alter the front facade, reconstruct a stoop, raise and alter the roofline, install dormers, and construct a rear yard addition. The application was approved in early May. All the changes look appropriate to us, how about you? GMAP

  1. dibs, maybe I’m using the wrong word.

I think it needs more elements in the railing.
Maybe another horizontal piece under the handrail instead of the vertical going into the handrail.

    Looks too plain to me.

    But to each his own.

  2. Very nice rendering.

Just wish they spent some more money on the railings.
They look like little white toothpicks. Would like to see some more ornate detail.

  3. That’s OK – construction noise is nothing compared to the screaming horror that is children at recess. Fortunately, if you don’t work from home and are gone during the day, it’s an ideal neighbor.

  4. Looking at it more closely, I realized that’s the home next to PS8. Will be hearing lots of construction noise for some time as PS8 expands.

  5. Minard, I’m impressed you wondered if the top pic was real. Looks very real to me.

Good luck on the project, I hope it turns out as nice as it looks in the rendering.

  6. OMG – looks fabulous. I lived on the ground floor of this house from 1983 – 1989 or thereabouts. I always wanted to buy it and restore it. I’m glad someone finally is! In terms of the side-by-side double hung windows, DIBS, I assume you mean the ones on the first (parlor) floor in the rear? That was an extension, built sometime after the original house. The dormers are not currently on the house, and I don’t know that they ever were, either.

  7. dave, I think the rear is supposed to look like a later addition with later windows. The original 1820’s house is just the front part.
