TheDay reported on the success of Resorts World Casino New York City, which is located at the Aqueduct Race Track in Ozone Park (GMAP). It opened last fall with 4,525 electronic slot machines and 475 electronic table games and has become the highest-grossing slot parlor in the entire country. Consequently, it has been a game changer, “helping to reshape the gambling landscape in the Northeast as patrons chose less opulent, more local casinos instead of traditional gambling meccas in Atlantic City and Connecticut.”

In the past 12 months, their electronic slot machines have generated close to $630 million in revenue, each slot machine making $370 per day; in Vegas it’s about half at $169.

One of the general conclusions that gambling industry experts have come to is that, “no matter how luxurious the accommodations or exciting the entertainment, nothing appeals more to gamblers than a casino that is nearby.” Within a 10 mile radius are 5.6 million people, and the Aqueduct – N. Conduit Avenue A train station lets people off right at the casino and racetrack. There’s also plenty of parking, which makes it easy for people from Long Island to just drive in, instead of taking the ferry to Connecticut to gamble.

The casino’s success is also going to affect Governor Cuomo and other in Albany who approve plans to build casinos in NY State. Do not be surprised if a resort-casino is built in Manhattan, since it will bring in a lot of revenue from taxes, owner licensing, as well as providing local jobs. That said, there is a fear of saturating the market with casinos.

Meanwhile, Queens can boast not only having the only casino in the five boroughs, but that is is wildly successful as well.
