ParkourĀ – that way of moving from point A to point be while maneuvering obstacles in one’s path – remains a recreational activity in the Rockaways despite the boardwalk being trashed. In fact, in its current state, it is probably a choice place to practice this style of movement, since negotiating obstacles is the name of the game. NBC was out there and got a few shots of the folks in the midst of hot parkour action in the rubble.

If you remember back in September, 27 year old Queens native and parkour practitionerĀ Keith Horan wrapped up production on a short film called Atlas, where he starred as Zeus. The film is loosely based on traditional Greek mythology, and showcases the multimedia Parkour performance group Bullettrun. Filmmaker Nadia LesyĀ cast Horan because of his powerful grace, which he attributes to parkour. Before the Hurricane, he practiced parkour at the Rockaway boardwalk.

Here is the very short film, Atlas.

And then there’s cat parkour, too (some say it was really cats that invented it all).
