30-46 Northern Blvd-self-storageLong Island City is getting a gigantic self storage center, at 30-46 Northern Boulevard. The Department of Buildings just issued this new building permit for the site, formerly an auto lot at 40th Avenue. It’ll be 12 stories and 49 feet tall. The permit also calls for 22,016 square feet of community space — according to the construction manager’s website, it will take up two full floors. Here’s what the building managers have to say about the construction process: “This project is located on a busy site adjacent to an above grade and below grade transit line. Due to this, an intricate support of excavation plan is required to facilitate the foundation plan. The foundation will supported by a Belloli pile system.” The building should be finished in one year. UPDATE: Google Maps marks this address in Jackson Heights, but the site is indeed in Long Island City. Here is the PropertyShark report for the lot.

  1. Hi guys,

Thanks for all your comments. It seems like Google Maps confuses the address — the location is actually in LIC. I added a Property Shark link just to clarify.

  2. The glitch is something to do with Google maps…when the address 30-46 Northern Bld is entered…Northern Bld in JH 77th to 78th Street comes up…but that is not near this new building which is in LIC.

  3. I hate to break it to you, but Jackson Heights, and not LIC will be the proud recipients of the Self Storage/ Community Center according the address listed.

  4. I think you have the cross streets wrong. From their permit it looks like it is at 31 street and 40th road. Between 77th and 78th street as the article states would put in Jackson Heights and in a totally inappropriate location.
