Well, we’ve had another winter storm – wind and some rain (it was chilly last night!), the threat of snow (which hasn’t materialized), and even coastal areas (like the Rockaways) were under a voluntary evacuation. DC was expecting to get slammed but didn’t – they even shut down a bunch of things in town in anticipation of crazy amounts of snow. And speaking of shut down, many flights in the NYC area were cancelled, perhaps unnecessarily. So are you ready for Spring (the Vernal Equinox is just two weeks from today!)? Or are you still digging the cold weather, precipitation, and drama? We’d love to know – leave us a comment here or via twitter at @queensnycity.
We thought we’d go through our QueensNYC Flickr pool and share with you some photos of the borough. If you are on Flickr, please join us! In the past several months, Flickr has released an excellent upgrade to their mobile app, too – it’s really amazing and worth checking out.

So how did you fare during this past weekend’s hurricane? Did your neighborhood see a ton of snow? Or was it totally manageable? Did you go sledding with your kids (or with your friends?). And what do you think about the naming of winter storms like this? Leave us a comment here or via twitter at @queesnycity. And if you have photos or video of the storm and right after to share, please send it our way! You can email us here - you might see them on the site, too.

They say we are supposed to have blizzard conditions today and into tomorrow. Are you prepared for crazy snow levels and nutso winds? Did you stay home today so you could avoid the crazy snowy weather today and tonight? It could really be a doozy – we’ve heard anywhere from 3 inches to two feet, though now it looks like maybe a foot. Anyway, let us know what you’re up to here in the comments or via twitter at @queensnycity.
Scenes from winters past
We’ve had a few storms come through and it looks like more are on the way. Some people wish these storms would dump snow instead of rain. And some are perfectly happy that it’s rain and not snow. So tell us – which side are you on? Do you prefer a milder, rainier winter, or a colder snowier one? Let us know in the comments or via twitter at @queensnycity!

So last night and into today is the nor’easter we’ve been hearing so much about. How has it affected you? Are you seeing snow? We were warned of possible downed power lines again – here’s hoping everything is up and running. Let us know about the storm’s impact on you here in the comments or via twitter at @queensnycity.
We’ve heard from multiple sources that Astoria Park may become home to a ski slope this winter. Community Board 1 voted last week to approve the proposal presented to bring a ski slope, equipment (including a snow maker), and a changing area to the park at the height of the cold season. The Vermont-based ski resort Sugarbush would build the temporary slope, and for six-weeks in February and March, the Great Meadow in Astoria Park will be the location of the ski slope. (more…)
