Summer Activities for Kids at Prospect Park’s Lakeside

    by

Kids feeling cooped up? The Samuel J. and Ethel LeFrak Center at Lakeside in Prospect Park has plenty of summer activities to keep them busy.

Lakeside’s “Rollerskate in the Tot-Spot” skate session caters to the three-and-under crowd. Held every Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., the toddler-only skate session features games, music, and activities. Kids even get a snack!

Lakeside’s Wednesday KIDtivity series kicks off with a free fitness class with PopFit Kids from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. If the kids aren’t tired, stick around for the free puppet show at 1 p.m. Featuring tattooed “hipster” puppets from Brooklyn’s own Puppetsburg, the 45-minute-long performance is geared towards the zero- to 3.5-year-old set (though we know plenty of adults who are fans).

At 2 p.m. kids can take advantage of a free roller skating session on Lakeside’s 16,000 sq. ft. covered rink. And if your tyke is obsessed with playing kitchen, don’t miss The Creative Kitchen’s kid-friendly cooking class at 4 p.m.

The tyke-centric activities continue on certain Sundays. Held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Lakeside’s popular “Figure 8 Playdate” series gives kids the chance to skate with their favorite storybook character (Curious George on 8/2 and Where the Wild Things Are on 8/16). The two-hour skating event includes a meet and greet, story time, arts and crafts, and breakfast.
