We were speculating about the location of a tapas bar rumored last month to be opening somewhere on Court Street and now we have our answer: 520 Court Street. The new place is called ‘Palo Cortado’ and tables had already been set up inside. The opening can’t be far behind!

  1. Tapas is actually Castilian (AKA Spanish from Spain) from the verb Tapar, which means “to cover”.

In Spain, tapas are frequently eaten as a main meal where several small plates (tapas) make up for a large entree. Tapas are also eaten between meals since Spaniards eat dinner after 9 p.m. and they are filling enough to hold one over.

And while they are overpriced in this city, they are quite inexpensive (and sometimes free when an alcoholic beverage is ordered) in Spain.

If I am not mistaken, petiscos is the Portuguese word for tapas.

    Thank you for asking!
